In the near-east side of Indianapolis, in the vicinity of Fountain Square, the morning of February 10, 2020, was shattered by the discovery of a man down. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a call around 9:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of Olive Street. There, they found 38-year-old Robert Michael Thomas Buskirk, a White male, the victim of a fatal shooting.
The Marion County Coroner's office would later confirm that Buskirk died from gunshot wounds and officially ruled his death a homicide.
Robert Buskirk, born in Indianapolis on February 20, 1981, was a self-employed construction worker, primarily focusing on roofing. Known to his loved ones, he was a man with a passion for racing his car, number 16, at the Kitley Race Track. He was also an avid hunter and a dedicated fan of the Indianapolis Colts. He left behind a family, including his children and a granddaughter.
Despite the investigation launched by the IMPD, the case surrounding Robert Buskirk's death remains unsolved. Information regarding any potential suspects or arrests has not been released to the public. The circumstances leading to the shooting on Olive Street that February morning are still unclear, leaving a void in the lives of his family and community as they await answers and justice for his untimely death.
