On May 28, 2020, tragedy struck a residential neighborhood in Muncie, Indiana, when gunfire erupted in the early morning hours. Authorities were alerted to the situation shortly before 5:00 a.m. and dispatched officers to a multi-unit home located at 422 West Howard Street. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a chaotic scene indicating a violent altercation had taken place.
On the front porch of the residence, police found a 19-year-old female suffering from a gunshot wound.
While medics attended to her and transported her to Ball Memorial Hospital for treatment, law enforcement continued their sweep of the property. Inside an upstairs apartment, they discovered the body of 29-year-old Troy 'Little Troy' Allen Sandifar Jr. He had sustained fatal injuries during the shooting and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Investigators quickly secured the area and began gathering evidence, broadcasting a description of a potential suspect to patrol units. The search yielded rapid results, leading to the apprehension of 42-year-old Tavis Corbin. Police took Corbin into custody, arresting him on preliminary charges of murder and attempted murder in connection with the attacks on both Sandifar and the surviving female victim.
