In the early morning hours of June 27, 2020, the life of 23-year-old Whitney Allen was tragically cut short in her Evansville, Indiana home. A Black female, Whitney was known as a fun-loving and happy person who followed in her mother's footsteps to become an adult caregiver. She enjoyed the latest fashions and cherished her family.
On that fateful day, Whitney and her 53-year-old mother, Bobbie Rice, were both fatally shot. The circumstances of their deaths unfolded in a heartbreaking sequence of events. Authorities were first alerted to the scene on East Chandler Avenue by a neighbor who reported hearing gunshots and seeing a woman with a gun. When police arrived, they discovered Whitney deceased inside the residence. Her mother was found outside the home, also a victim of the fatal shooting.
The investigation quickly pointed to a close family member as the perpetrator. Whitney's own sister, 24-year-old Siddigga Allen, was identified as the suspect. According to reports, Siddigga first shot Whitney while she was asleep. She then waited for their mother, Bobbie Rice, to return home from work before killing her as well. The motive for the double homicide was reportedly rooted in ongoing family disputes, with Siddigga accusing her foster family, which included Whitney and Bobbie, of stealing her checks.
After the shootings, Siddigga fled the scene in a blue minivan. Her escape was short-lived, as she crashed the vehicle into another car a short time later. Police apprehended her at the crash site, where they found her with a significant amount of blood on her clothing and a handgun in the van. Siddigga Allen was arrested and subsequently charged with two counts of murder. She was held in the Vanderburgh County Jail without bond as the legal proceedings against her commenced.
