In the early morning hours of a December Sunday in Indianapolis, the life of 18-year-old Joseph Felker was tragically cut short. A Black male, Felker was discovered with gunshot wounds in the 600 block of Cottage Avenue on the city's near south side. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call about the shooting at approximately 4:25 a.m. on December 20, 2020.
Upon their arrival, officers found the wounded teenager.
Medics rushed him to a nearby hospital in an attempt to save his life, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. Homicide detectives from the IMPD began an investigation into the fatal shooting, with the assistance of the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency.
In the wake of the shooting, law enforcement officials appealed to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case.
