In the summer of 2021, the life of Aaron Ray Luncsford, a 39-year-old White/Caucasian male from Michigan City, Indiana, was tragically cut short. On the evening of July 13th, police were called to the 1100 block of Buffalo Street around 9:15 p.m. for a report of an unconscious man bleeding from the head. First responders discovered Luncsford on the floor with a severe head injury. He was rushed to Franciscan Health Michigan City, but sadly, he was later pronounced dead.
It was soon determined that Luncsford had been the victim of a shooting.
The violence of that night did not end with Luncsford's death. Just fifteen minutes after he was found, another shooting was reported in the 100 block of W. Homer Street. There, a 43-year-old man had been shot in the neck. He was transported to a local hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. The proximity in time and location of the two shootings led investigators to believe they were connected.
Within an hour of the second shooting, law enforcement officers had identified and apprehended a suspect in both incidents: 37-year-old Joshua Cornelison, also a resident of Michigan City. The quick arrest was credited with preventing further violence. The La Porte County Prosecutor's Office subsequently filed a series of charges against Cornelison, including murder, attempted murder, theft, and criminal mischief. He was held in the La Porte County Jail without bond.
Aaron Luncsford was remembered as a kind and gentle soul who was a devoted father to his two children. He had a passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles, both riding and working on them. His death was a profound loss to his family and the community.
