Christy "Cricket" Lee Webster Newman, a 44-year-old White female, was a beloved member of the Madison, Indiana community, known for her free spirit and love for music, motorcycles, and art. A mother of two, she spent her days working local jobs, most recently at a liquor store in downtown Madison, and living in the nearby town of Kent. Her life was tragically cut short on May 14, 2022, when a domestic dispute at her residence escalated into a fatal violent encounter.
On that Saturday, a
neighbor witnessed the chaotic events unfolding at Newman’s home. The neighbor observed Newman’s boyfriend, Dalton Simmonds, driving away from the property in Newman's truck. Moments later, a distressed Newman emerged from her house, revealing to the neighbor that Simmonds had set her curtains on fire during an argument. As the situation appeared to de-escalate with Simmonds' departure, the neighbor attempted to assist Newman. However, Simmonds returned to the scene shortly after leaving. Upon his return, he shot Newman, inflicting a fatal wound that ended her life.
Law enforcement officers responded to the scene and launched an investigation into the homicide. Dalton Simmonds, identified as the primary suspect, was taken into custody. Authorities charged him with multiple serious offenses, including murder, obstruction of justice, and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
