In Elkhart, Indiana, a young woman's life was tragically cut short in the spring of 2022. Cassandra M. 'Cassie' Geschke, a 21-year-old female, passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. Known affectionately as 'Sassy Cassie' to her loved ones, she was a graduate of Elkhart Central High School and worked as a cashier. She was a mother to a young daughter named Amaya.
On that Wednesday afternoon, police were called to a residence on Pleasant Plain Avenue around 12:36 p.m.
regarding a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, they discovered Cassandra suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. An occupant of the home informed investigators that the individual responsible for the shooting was likely headed to a nearby KFC.
Just two minutes later, a second call directed police to the KFC on South Main Street for a possible suicide. There, they found 33-year-old Jerry L. Hopkins with a gunshot wound that appeared to be self-inflicted. Hopkins was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The Elkhart County Prosecutor's Office later confirmed that the two fatal shootings were connected, and the Elkhart County Homicide Unit undertook the investigation into the tragic events that unfolded that day.
