On September 19, 1997, Robert Taylor was murdered in Champaign, Illinois. He had just exited a taxi on the 200 block of East Springfield Avenue when he was attacked by an unknown assailant. The attacker struck Taylor from behind, battered him severely, and stole his wallet before fleeing the scene. Taylor was transported to a nearby hospital where he eventually succumbed to the injuries inflicted during the attack.
