Lewis Franklin Webb, aged 64, was tragically killed on March 14, 1912, in Hillsville, Virginia, during what became known as the Carroll County Courthouse Tragedy. Webb, who had recently taken office as the county sheriff in January 1912, was present in the courtroom when a violent shootout erupted.
