Laura Susan Ramsay, a 27-year-old social worker from Maine, was tragically murdered on May 20, 1981, while hiking the Appalachian Trail near Pearisburg, Virginia. Ramsay, along with her hiking companion Robert Mountford Jr., was on a mission to raise funds for a school for mentally challenged children in Maine.
