In the winter of 1984, the community of Chesapeake, Virginia, was shaken by a brutal crime that claimed the lives of a young mother and her child. Lisa Rene Nixon Sorrell, a 22-year-old female, was found deceased on December 10, 1984. Her body was discovered inside her burgundy Honda, where she had been shot six times in the head. The tragedy was compounded by the discovery of her three-year-old daughter, Shanta, in the trunk of the vehicle; the child had succumbed to carbon monoxide
poisoning.
The investigation into the double homicide has spanned decades, yet no arrests have ever been made, and the case officially remains an unsolved cold case with the Chesapeake Police Department. In the initial stages of the investigation, suspicion fell upon Lisa's husband, Timothy Sorrell. Detectives noted that he had taken out a significant life insurance policy on his wife and daughter just two weeks prior to their deaths.
