On December 6, 1994, Deputy Clifford Ernest Dicker, aged 57, was tragically killed in Wytheville, Virginia. Deputy Dicker, who had been serving with the Wythe County Sheriff's Office for 14 years, was shot by a 15-year-old juvenile suspect while serving legal papers. The incident occurred when Deputy Dicker entered the residence to serve the papers, and the suspect shot him in the face with a .22 caliber rifle, wounding him.
