In the winter of 1908, a tragic event unfolded on the main street of Wytheville, Virginia, forever marking the town's history. Walter R. McClintock, the 39-year-old Chief of Police, lost his life in the line of duty on December 19th. The fatal encounter occurred directly in front of the Wythe County Courthouse, a place that symbolized the very justice he had sworn to uphold.
