Patrolman Allen William Gibson Jr., aged 25, tragically lost his life on April 25, 1998, in Waverly, Virginia. Officer Gibson was on foot patrol in a wooded area behind the Waverly Village Apartments when he confronted two male suspects involved in a drug deal. During the confrontation, a struggle ensued, and Officer Gibson was shot once in the abdomen with his own weapon.
