On January 16, 2002, the small community of Grundy, Virginia, was shaken by a tragic shooting at the Appalachian School of Law. Lewis Anthony Sutin, the 42-year-old White male Dean of the law school, was among the victims who lost their lives that day. Sutin had a distinguished career in law, having served in various senior roles within the U.S. Department of Justice before joining the faculty at the Appalachian School of Law in 1999.
