Thomas Francis Blackwell, a 41-year-old professor of law at the Appalachian School of Law, tragically lost his life on January 16, 2002, in Grundy, Virginia. Blackwell, along with Dean L. Anthony Sutin and student Angela Dales, was a victim of a mass shooting at the law school. The shooter, Peter Odighizuwa, a former student of the school, opened fire with a semi-automatic handgun, killing three and wounding three others.
