In the late hours of a summer night in Roanoke, Virginia, the life of William Nolan Clark, a 27-year-old Black man from Raleigh, North Carolina, was tragically cut short. On July 17, 2012, just before midnight, the sound of gunfire echoed in the 1500 block of Gilmer Avenue. Responding officers discovered a wounded Clark outside a residence in the area.
Emergency medical services rushed him to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, William Nolan Clark succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. The cause of his death was a fatal gunshot wound.
In the years that have passed since the shooting, the investigation into Clark's death has remained open.
