In the early morning hours of June 29, 2013, in Suffolk, Virginia, the life of 26-year-old Lloyd Randolph Green Sr., a Black male, was tragically cut short. Emergency dispatchers received a call about shots being fired in the 1000 block of Cogic Square around 1:00 a.m. Upon arrival, responders found Green on the ground with multiple injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Green had been involved in an altercation with another man, identified as
22-year-old Jeffrey O'Neil Jennings Jr. of Suffolk. The argument escalated to a horrifying act of violence when Jennings shot Green in the back of the head. In a brutal final act, Jennings stood over Green's body and fired additional shots.
Following the incident, Jennings fled the state, prompting a manhunt. He was eventually located and apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Nashville, Tennessee. Jennings was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and other related offenses. A grand jury handed down indictments, and he faced trial for the killing of Lloyd Green. Green, a native of Portsmouth and a father to four children, was remembered fondly by his family and friends. His funeral services were held at East End Baptist Church, with his interment at Oakland Cemetery in Chuckatuck.
