Jessica Leigh Wilson, a 31-year-old Black/African American woman from Bristow, Virginia, was tragically killed on October 19, 2014. A mother of two, she was originally from Roanoke, Virginia. The events that led to her death began to unfold on that Sunday morning as a domestic dispute with her boyfriend, Edward Everett Hale Jr., escalated into a violent and fatal encounter at a residence on Lednock Way in Bristow.
Witnesses reported seeing Wilson and Hale in a car in the driveway, where
a heated argument turned physical. Hale was observed choking Wilson before she managed to cry out for help, alerting a neighbor that Hale was armed with a knife and a gun. This neighbor intervened, but the situation quickly worsened. Despite her pleas, Hale shot Wilson. The neighbor rushed to her side, performing CPR in a desperate attempt to save her life. One of Wilson's children tragically witnessed the immediate aftermath as the neighbor tried to render aid. Wilson was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
In the wake of the shooting, Edward Everett Hale Jr. fled the scene in a gray Honda Accord, sparking a manhunt by law enforcement. The search for Hale led to lockdowns at nearby schools as a safety precaution. The following day, Hale's body was discovered near the baseball fields of an elementary school in Nokesville, Virginia. It was determined that he had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. With the death of the sole suspect, the investigation into Jessica Leigh Wilson's murder was closed.
