In the early morning hours of March 29, 2017, the life of 15-year-old Taliek K. Brown, a Black male, was tragically cut short in the Mosby Court neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia. Responding to reports of random gunfire in the 1900 block of Accommodation Street at approximately 1:21 a.m., police officers arrived to a devastating scene. Taliek and another teenager, 16-year-old Mikkaisha D.
Smoot, were discovered with life-threatening gunshot wounds to the head.
Both teenagers were rushed to a local hospital and placed on life support. Tragically, Taliek succumbed to his injuries the following day, on March 30, 2017. Mikkaisha passed away on March 31, 2017. The investigation later revealed that neither Taliek nor Mikkaisha were the intended targets of the shooting. A third individual, an adult woman, was also struck by gunfire while taking out her trash but sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Richmond Police Department urged the community to come forward with any information that could lead to an arrest. Authorities emphasized their commitment to solving the case and bringing closure to the families of the young victims. However, despite their efforts and public appeals for assistance, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Taliek K. Brown and Mikkaisha D. Smoot. The case remains unsolved, and the individuals responsible for this senseless act of violence have not been brought to justice. The community continues to mourn the loss of two young lives taken too soon.
