In the quiet Windsor Oaks neighborhood of Virginia Beach, a tragic story unfolded within the walls of the Towne Square condominiums. Jamie Marie Johnson, a 37-year-old female, was discovered dead on the morning of August 2, 2017, the victim of a fatal gunshot wound. Her life was cut short in what investigators would later determine to be a murder-suicide.
Officers had been dispatched to the residence to conduct a welfare check when they made the grim discovery.
Alongside Jamie, they found the body of her 29-year-old ex-boyfriend, Marcel Nereo Blanco. He too had suffered a fatal gunshot wound, which authorities believe was self-inflicted after he had taken Jamie's life. The case was quickly classified as a domestic-related homicide.
Jamie had relocated to Virginia from Minnesota and had been living with Blanco. Their romantic relationship had ended in June of that year, but they continued to share the living space as roommates. Friends and family recounted that Jamie was making plans to return to her home state and had set a move-out date of September 1st. It was a move that, according to her cousin, Blanco was not happy about. While there had been some mention of Blanco being 'mean' to her, there were no reports of physical abuse.
Those who knew Jamie described her as a witty and kind soul, a bright presence in their lives. She was a mother and a grandmother, leaving behind a daughter and a grandson. As the investigation concluded that the perpetrator of the homicide was also deceased, no arrests were made in connection with Jamie Johnson's death.
