In the city of Richmond, Virginia, a young woman's life was tragically cut short in a violent encounter that left a community reeling. Twenty-six-year-old Jenelle Smith was killed on September 10, 2017. Her death was part of a triple homicide that also claimed the lives of 50-year-old Aaron Robinson and 26-year-old Cynthia K. Paul Street after police responded to a report of gunfire.
The investigation into the deaths of Smith, Robinson, and Williams took a swift and unexpected turn. Richmond police identified 28-year-old Marvin Eley as the individual who had shot the three victims. However, about an hour after the bodies were discovered, officers in the vicinity heard more gunshots. Responding to the sound, they found Eley deceased from gunshot wounds in the 100 block of Federal Street, just a couple of blocks away from the initial crime scene.
While police were able to identify Eley as the perpetrator in the deaths of Smith, Robinson, and Williams, the motive behind the triple homicide remained unknown. The subsequent investigation into Eley's own death did not immediately lead to any arrests. The violent deaths left friends, family, and community members to mourn their loss.
