In the early morning hours of July 17, 2019, the life of 21-year-old Kyyona Nicole Casey was tragically cut short in Roanoke, Virginia. She was a passenger in a car on Orange Avenue in the northwest part of the city when the vehicle was targeted in a shooting. Patrolling police officers heard the gunshots and quickly discovered the car with three occupants inside suffering from gunshot wounds.
Kyyona Casey and another passenger, 31-year-old Justin Jennings, succumbed to their injuries
and died at the scene. A third individual in the vehicle, Deontray Clements, was also shot but survived the attack and received medical treatment. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, though investigators determined that the car had been specifically targeted.
In the years following the deadly shooting, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case remains an open and active investigation. Kyyona's father, Bobbie Casey, has made repeated public pleas for anyone with information to come forward to the Roanoke Police Department to help bring justice for his daughter and her family. He continues to keep her memory alive, expressing the deep pain of not having answers or closure in the unsolved double homicide.
