In the late summer of 2019, the life of Marvin 'Mario' Cherome Briggs, a 40-year-old Black male, was abruptly ended. On the evening of September 1st, police were called to the 2300 block of Navajo Court in Petersburg, Virginia, where a double shooting had occurred. Upon arrival, officers discovered two victims. One individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment, but Briggs was pronounced dead at the scene.

through his community and family. Known for his devotion to his loved ones, his passing was a profound loss. Born on July 19, 1979, Marvin was a father to four children: Avianne Smith, Jerrell Watson, Kimauri Briggs, and Mario Briggs, Jr. He was survived by his mother, Christine Briggs, and two brothers, Aaron and Kenneth Briggs.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly. Eight days after the incident, on September 9, 2019, authorities arrested 37-year-old Devon Jackson in connection with the crime. Jackson faced a series of serious charges, including homicide, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
