On a summer afternoon in Portsmouth, Virginia, the life of 17-year-old LaMyricle LeLe Lee, a promising Black female high school student, was tragically cut short. On August 5, 2020, while walking to a store with friends in the 2500 block of High Street, a vehicle approached them. The driver of the car opened fire, striking LaMyricle multiple times.
She was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries later that day.
LaMyricle, affectionately known as 'LeLe,' was a bright and ambitious young woman with an infectious smile. She was an honor student and a member of the National Honor Society, demonstrating a commitment to her education. Her vibrant personality shone through her involvement in extracurricular activities, including band and track. Her sudden and violent death left her family, friends, and the wider Portsmouth community in deep mourning. She was just about to enter her senior year of high school and had aspirations of starting her own business.
Despite the efforts of the Portsmouth Police Department, the investigation into LaMyricle's murder has been met with significant challenges. Detectives have exhausted all available leads and have made public appeals for any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the person or persons responsible. The vehicle involved in the shooting was described as a faded black, early 2000s model Honda Civic. However, to date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with her killing. The case remains unsolved, leaving her loved ones without closure and a community still seeking justice for a young life taken too soon.
