On a tragic day in August, the life of 38-year-old Misty Dawn Bishop was abruptly ended. The female resident of Abingdon, Virginia, was found deceased on August 27, 2020, inside a home on Peaceful Valley Road in Washington County. Alongside her was the body of 24-year-old Trevor Alexander Sweat. Both had suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
Authorities were called to the residence for a reported shooting in the early morning hours.
Upon their arrival, they encountered 29-year-old Albert Lee Ricketson, who was armed. Ricketson complied with the deputies' commands to drop his weapon and was taken into custody at the scene. Inside the home, law enforcement discovered the two victims.
The investigation that followed revealed a history of disturbances at the residence, which the local sheriff described as a 'nuisance house.' It was reported that arguments were a frequent occurrence at the home. In the moments leading up to the shooting, Misty's son was present and attempted to intervene in an altercation, during which he was bitten by Ricketson.
Albert Lee Ricketson, who had an extensive 38-page criminal history, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He also faced charges for the use of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. No other suspects were identified in connection with the double homicide.
