On an autumn evening in Roanoke, Virginia, the life of 24-year-old Kenneth Scott Jr., known to his friends as 'Fatz,' was tragically cut short. On Saturday, October 24, 2020, police responded to reports of a shooting in the 1300 block of Gayle Street NW. Upon arrival, they found Scott suffering from a serious gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led Roanoke police to identify a
suspect. Two days after the fatal shooting, on October 26, 2020, authorities arrested 27-year-old De'Andre Darnell Colston. He was taken into custody without incident and charged in connection with Scott's death.
Following his arrest, Colston faced legal proceedings for his alleged involvement in the death of Kenneth Scott Jr. He was indicted on a charge of first-degree murder, along with use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In a turn of events, Colston ultimately entered a plea of no contest to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter. As a result of his plea, he was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison.
