On a Monday afternoon, November 9, 2020, 27-year-old Rico A. Turner of Bedford, Virginia, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Lakeside Shopping Center in Salem. The tragic event unfolded at approximately 1:55 p.m. during what was intended to be a custody exchange. Turner was with his fiancée and her three children when he was confronted by Zane Chandler Christian, his fiancée's 25-year-old estranged husband from Christiansburg.
