On a cold January morning in 2022, the life of 37-year-old Mary Anne Smoot, a Black female from Manassas, Virginia, was tragically cut short. The events that led to her death began to unfold on January 17th, when she accompanied a family member to the Raven Crest Apartments on Cobden Court. The purpose of their visit was to meet with 18-year-old Maquan Omari McCray, with whom Smoot's family member had a previous relationship.
