In the spring of 2022, a burst of gunfire shattered the evening quiet in a Chester, Virginia neighborhood, leaving a young man dead and a community searching for answers. The life of 20-year-old Tyjuan A. Coleman was cut tragically short on Thursday, May 12, 2022. Responding to several calls about shots fired in the Broadwater Townhomes area, Chesterfield County police discovered Coleman inside a vehicle on Timsberry Circle around 9:20 p.m. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the young man’s death painted a grim picture of a gunfight that began on Harrowgate Road and concluded at the bottom of Timsberry Circle. Shortly after finding Coleman, police located a second victim, a juvenile male, on nearby Broadwater Lane. He had suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. In the immediate aftermath, investigators canvassed the area and spoke with the victim's family, piecing together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
For several months, the case progressed without publicly named suspects. Then, in late July, a significant breakthrough occurred. On July 26, 2022, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, Chesterfield police arrested 21-year-old Zziwa Mukeere of Chesterfield. He was charged with second-degree murder, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
The arrests did not end there. Just days later, on July 29, 2022, two more individuals were taken into custody in connection with Coleman's death. These suspects, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old male, faced the same serious charges as Mukeere: second-degree murder, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Both juveniles were held at the Chesterfield Juvenile Detention Home. While these arrests marked a significant step forward in the investigation, authorities continued to appeal to the public for any additional information that could bring further clarity and justice for Tyjuan Coleman and his family.
