On a tragic Sunday afternoon in Woodbridge, Virginia, the lives of two young men were cut short in a burst of violence. Twenty-three-year-old Malik Xavier Lamar David, a Black male known for his infectious smile and love for basketball, was found deceased on May 15, 2022. He, along with another 23-year-old man, Christian Jamar Roberts, had been fatally shot inside an apartment at the Woodbridge Station Apartments on Mary's Way.

The grim discovery was made after a downstairs neighbor reported a bullet hole in their ceiling to the police. Responding officers conducted a welfare check at the upstairs apartment. Upon entering, they found Mr. David and Mr. Roberts in separate rooms, both having succumbed to gunshot wounds. The initial investigation revealed no signs of forced entry into the residence.

The investigation into the double homicide moved swiftly. It was determined that Mr. David, Mr. Roberts, and several acquaintances had been gathered in the apartment when an altercation broke out, leading to the fatal shootings. This led to the arrest of a 15-year-old male acquaintance of the victims. He was taken into custody and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, among other weapons charges.

Further investigation into the tragic incident resulted in the arrest of a second teenager, a 16-year-old male. He was also charged with first-degree murder and other offenses related to the shooting. Authorities have indicated that the motive for the killings may have been related to a gang initiation, adding a chilling layer to the senseless loss of two young lives. The community was left to mourn the passing of Malik David, a graduate of Potomac Senior High School who was remembered for his kind and tender heart, and his profound love for his family.
