In the quiet town of Farmville, Virginia, the life of 25-year-old Dennis D. Dubose was tragically cut short on the evening of Sunday, October 30, 2022. Farmville police officers responded to a call of shots fired inside a residence in the 800 block of Early Street at approximately 7:25 p.m. Upon entering the home, they discovered Dubose suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dennis, a male resident of Farmville, was a well-known and respected member of the community. Born in Paterson, New Jersey, he graduated from Prince Edward County High School in 2017, where he was active in football and track and field. After graduation, he worked at Green Front Luxury Furniture before embarking on a career in law enforcement, serving as an officer at Piedmont Regional Jail and later at the Farmville Immigration Detention Center. He was a father to a young daughter.
The investigation into Dubose's death quickly pointed to a suspect. The following day, 20-year-old Tai'Juan A. Williams of Prospect, Virginia, was arrested in Buckingham County without incident. Williams was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The arrest was the result of a collaborative effort involving the Farmville Police Department, the Buckingham County Sheriff’s Office, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the Hampden-Sydney College Police Department, the Longwood University Police Department, the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia State Police, and the Virginia Department of Corrections.
In April 2023, Tai'Juan A. Williams pleaded guilty to the charges of first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His guilty plea brought a legal conclusion to the case that had deeply affected the Farmville community.
