Boyfriend and girlfriend murdered in their home. Possible home invasion?
In the spring of 2015, a quiet evening in an eastern New Orleans apartment complex was shattered by violence, leaving two people dead and a community searching for answers. On the night of Thursday, April 23rd, 25-year-old Louis Brooks and his 26-year-old girlfriend, Diamonique Lewis, were inside their apartment in the 13600 block of Granville Street. What exactly transpired remains unclear, but the outcome was tragically fatal.
Neighbors later recounted hearing loud noises emanating from the apartment. One resident reported hearing what sounded like gunshots around 10:30 p.m. and witnessed two men fleeing the scene. Another neighbor recalled hearing fighting and loud banging, like a hammer hitting a wall, around 11 p.m., followed by the cries of children. This neighbor, accustomed to hearing disputes from the couple's apartment, did not immediately suspect the gravity of the situation.
It wasn't until the early hours of Friday, April 24, 2015, that police were dispatched to the residence to check on the occupants. Upon arrival at approximately 3 a.m., officers discovered a gruesome scene. Louis Brooks and Diamonique Lewis were found lying on the floor, both having sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including to the head. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The apartment appeared to have been ransacked, suggesting a possible home invasion.
The investigation into the double homicide was immediately launched, but clear motives and suspects proved elusive. While neighbors provided accounts of hearing disturbances and seeing individuals fleeing, this information did not lead to any immediate arrests. Investigators have continued to seek possible motives and suspects in the case. To date, no arrests have been made in the murders of Louis Brooks and Diamonique Lewis, and their case remains open.
