Robert Fisher, a 27-year-old male police officer, tragically lost his life in an ambush while working a second job. At the time of his death, he was employed by the Teaneck Police Department, where he had served for 18 months. Prior to this, he had been with the Bergen County Sheriff's Office for 18 months.
While moonlighting as a security guard at a Sears store in Hackensack, New Jersey, Officer Fisher was attacked by three men as he was transporting the night's cash box to his vehicle.
During the confrontation, he was shot in the chest. The unarmed officer succumbed to his injuries at the scene. This violent act cut short the life of a dedicated public servant.
Investigators were led to the suspects by a magazine name and address label found beside Officer Fisher's car. This crucial piece of evidence resulted in the arrest of three individuals, aged 19, 21, and 23. The man who fired the fatal shot and another accomplice were subsequently sentenced to life in prison. A third individual, a former store clerk accused of providing inside information and driving the getaway car, was acquitted. One of the convicted men, Kevin Lee, and his cousin, Kevin Richards, were found guilty of the murder.
