In a tragic turn of events on a Saturday afternoon, Maximiliun Reyes, a 20-year-old male, lost his life in a shooting at a local park. The incident occurred on June 5, 2021, in Ammann Park in Teaneck, New Jersey. Reports indicate that Reyes himself managed to call 911 at approximately 3:59 p.m. to report that he had been shot.
Upon their arrival at the park located at 303 Fort Lee Road, Teaneck police officers discovered Reyes with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was quickly transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for emergency treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Reyes was pronounced deceased at the hospital. While initial reports identified him as a resident of Englewood, it was later clarified that he was a resident of Teaneck.
The investigation into the shooting was a collaborative effort between the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and the Teaneck Police Department.
For several months, authorities worked to identify the person responsible for Reyes's death. The investigation led them to another Teaneck resident, 20-year-old Jairrod Shannon.
On October 27, 2021, Jairrod Shannon was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. He was subsequently charged with a series of serious offenses, including murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated assault, and hindering apprehension. Following his arrest, Shannon was remanded to the Passaic County Jail to await his first court appearance in Hackensack.
