In the early morning hours of a Saturday in March 2014, the life of 33-year-old Jason A. Williams of Oaklyn, New Jersey, was tragically cut short. On March 21, 2014, Williams was outside a unit of the Crestbury Apartments in Camden when he was shot multiple times. The incident, which occurred around 8:30 a.m., left the local community in shock and prompted a swift and thorough investigation by law enforcement.
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office and the Camden County Police Department
worked diligently to piece together the events that led to Williams's death. Their investigation quickly led them to identify two teenage suspects. A sense of closure began to unfold for the grieving family and community when a 17-year-old male from Camden surrendered to the Camden County Metro Police Department on the Sunday evening following the shooting. He was subsequently charged with the murder of Jason Williams.
Further investigation led to the arrest of a second 17-year-old from Camden. This second individual was not accused of firing the weapon but faced charges of hindering apprehension and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He was alleged to have assisted the primary suspect in concealing the firearm used in the homicide. Authorities were successful in recovering the weapon, a key piece of evidence in the case against the two teenagers. Both suspects were held at the Camden County Youth Detention Center as the legal process against them commenced.
