On a summer day in Warren, New Jersey, a family tragedy unfolded, leaving a community in shock and mourning. Frederick William Errickson Jr., a 55-year-old white male, lost his life on August 16, 2015, in a violent sequence of events that also claimed the life of his sister. A dedicated facility manager and a loving husband, father, and grandfather, Errickson was known for his strong work ethic and his deep love for his family, especially his grandson.
Concerned for his sister's welfare, Frederick went to her home in Warren. It was there that he was fatally shot by his sister's fiancé, John Reno. The situation quickly escalated into a tense six-hour standoff with law enforcement after Reno, armed with an assault rifle, fired at responding officers.
The Somerset County SWAT team was deployed to the scene as authorities attempted to negotiate with Reno.
As the standoff continued, a remote-controlled robot was utilized to enter the residence, where the body of Frederick's sister, Heidi Errickson, was discovered. The tragic event concluded when authorities found John Reno in a wooded area behind the house, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Subsequent investigations confirmed that John Reno was the sole person responsible for the deaths of both Frederick and Heidi Errickson. No other suspects were identified, and no arrests were made in connection with the case. The deaths of the siblings were a devastating loss to their family and all who knew them.
