In the late hours of an autumn evening, the life of Donald Marquis Gadson was tragically cut short. On October 16, 2015, the 21-year-old male was found with a gunshot wound to his upper body outside the entrance of a building at 23 Dales Avenue in Jersey City. The call reporting the shooting came in shortly before 11:35 p.m., prompting a swift response from local police.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered the wounded Gadson.
He was quickly transported to the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health in a bid to save his life. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:50 p.m. that same night. His death was ruled a homicide, launching an investigation into the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
More than three months after the incident, a break in the case was announced by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office. On January 26, 2016, authorities confirmed the arrest of 19-year-old Marcus Mair, who was subsequently charged with the murder of Donald Gadson.
