On a late Tuesday night in Newark, New Jersey, the life of 25-year-old Jamal McBride was tragically cut short. It was April 12, 2016, and just after 11 p.m., Jamal, a Black male, was sitting in a car with a female companion on Elizabeth Avenue. The quiet of the evening was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Both he and the woman were struck by bullets.
