In the late afternoon of April 26, 2016, Rondell Rush, a 17-year-old male, was with a group of friends outside his home on Fulton Avenue in Jersey City, New Jersey. A promising senior at Dickenson High School, Rush was an honor roll student who was in the process of finalizing his college plans. He also worked at a local tax business to gain practical experience. The normalcy of the day was shattered at approximately 5 p.m.
when he was struck by a gunshot to the head.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, his friends attempted to rush him to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle. Their efforts were intercepted by police who had been alerted to the incident. Officers stopped the car a few blocks away and an ambulance was called to transport Rush to the Jersey City Medical Center. Despite the efforts to save him, Rondell Rush succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead the following day, on April 27, 2016.
