Darren Scott, a 28-year-old Black male from Jersey City, New Jersey, was tragically killed on Sunday, May 15, 2016. The incident occurred following a chaotic altercation at the Allstar Nightclub on 3rd Street in Elizabeth. Police responded to reports of a fight at the venue at approximately 1 a.m. and discovered Scott at the scene with gunshot wounds.
Scott was immediately transported to University Hospital in Newark for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead early the following morning, on Monday, May 16, 2016. Another man from Jersey City was also wounded during the shooting but was expected to survive his injuries. The investigation into the homicide was a joint effort by the Union County Homicide Task Force, the Elizabeth Police Department, and the Union County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Unit.
In the aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement officials faced challenges in gathering information, as witnesses were reportedly reluctant to come forward. The Union County Crime Stoppers offered a reward of up to $10,000 for information that would lead to an arrest and indictment in the case. However, there have been no significant updates regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in connection with Darren Scott's death. The case officially remains open and unsolved, leaving his family and friends still seeking justice and closure.
