In the late summer of 2016, a joyous occasion turned into a precursor for tragedy, culminating in the death of 34-year-old Juanita Holley. On Saturday, September 17, 2016, in Fairfield Township, New Jersey, what began as a dispute at a baby shower escalated into a fatal act of violence at the Tips Trailer Park. That evening, Daiquan Blake, a 19-year-old from Penns Grove, returned to the location armed with a handgun. An argument that had started earlier in the day ultimately led to Blake opening fire, striking Juanita Holley.

The single gunshot wound proved fatal for the mother of two. Holley was rushed to the emergency room at Inspira Regional Medical Center in Vineland, but she succumbed to her injuries. Her husband, Regie, was also targeted in the attack when Blake allegedly pointed the handgun in his direction, though he was not physically harmed. The incident prompted an immediate investigation by the New Jersey State Police, leading to a swift arrest in the case.

Authorities quickly identified Daiquan Blake as the primary suspect. He was taken into custody and faced a series of serious charges, including murder, attempted murder, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Initially held on a $500,000 bail, Blake's legal journey concluded in January 2018. Following a trial, he was convicted of a lesser charge of passion provocation manslaughter, in addition to aggravated assault and weapons counts. In March 2018, Blake, then 20 years old, was sentenced to 20 years in state prison for his role in the shooting death of Juanita Holley. Under the terms of his sentence, he is required to serve at least 85 percent of his term before being eligible for parole.
