In the late morning of a Monday in Jersey City, the life of 20-year-old Ahmin Colclough was tragically cut short. On September 19, 2016, police responded to a report of a shooting at 391 Forrest Street around 10 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Colclough suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the young man's death swiftly led to a suspect.
A few days after the shooting, authorities announced the arrest of 26-year-old David Cooper, also a resident of Jersey City. He was charged with the murder of Colclough, and his bail was set at one million dollars. The evidence presented during the trial revealed that Cooper had fired a 9mm bullet into the back of Colclough's neck.
After a trial, a Hudson County jury deliberated for approximately 90 minutes before convicting David Cooper on all counts related to the murder. In June 2019, a Hudson County Superior Court judge sentenced Cooper, then 28, to life in state prison for the murder of Ahmin Colclough. He also received concurrent sentences for weapons charges.
