In the cold of a late January night in 2017, the city of Trenton was on the verge of closing out its first month without a homicide. That fragile peace was shattered on the evening of Monday, January 30th, when 34-year-old Tian Thompson, a Black male, was shot and killed. The fatal encounter unfolded at approximately 9:45 p.m., just outside the entrance of Dee Dee's Lounge & Liquor Store on Brunswick Avenue, marking the city's first homicide of the year.
