In the early morning hours of March 24, 2017, the quiet of a Clayton, New Jersey neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Inside a home on Downs Street, 33-year-old Kenneth Bernard Mosley was fatally wounded. Police were dispatched to the residence at approximately 3:38 a.m. following a report of shots fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mosley's body; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time of the incident, Mosley was at his girlfriend's house, and there were two other adults and two children present, none of whom were physically harmed. The investigation, led by the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office, soon revealed that the shooting was not a random act of violence. Authorities stated that they believed Mosley was the intended target of the attack.
The assailant had fired through a sliding glass door, striking Mosley as he was seated in the living room.
In the wake of the shooting, law enforcement officials began an intensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mosley's death. They believed that Mosley likely knew his killer and that the act was a planned and personal attack. A Cumberland County resident, Mosley's death prompted a joint investigation between the Gloucester and Cumberland County Prosecutor's Offices. In the year following his death, a $4,000 reward was offered for any information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. Despite the ongoing investigation and the offered reward, no suspects have been publicly identified or arrested in connection with the murder of Kenneth Mosley.
