In the winter of 2018, a resident of Camden, New Jersey, lost his life in a burst of violence that echoed through the East Camden neighborhood. Amir Hardison, a 28-year-old Black male, was on the 500 block of Pfeiffer Street on the evening of February 11th when he was targeted in a fatal shooting. The sounds of gunfire prompted both 911 calls and an activation of the city's Shotspotter system, drawing a swift police response to the scene.
Upon their arrival at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers discovered Hardison on the ground, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to Cooper University Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at around 9:15 p.m.
His death marked the fourth homicide in the city of Camden that year, and the third in the month of February alone.
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office, in conjunction with the Camden County Police Department, immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Detectives canvassed the area for evidence and witnesses, urging members of the public to come forward with any information that might lead to the person or persons responsible for Hardison's death. However, despite the ongoing investigation and public appeals for assistance, no arrests have been made in the case, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case remains an open and active investigation as authorities continue to seek justice for Amir Hardison and his family.
