In the early morning hours of May 4, 2018, the life of 27-year-old Kelly A. Wiley, a Black female, was tragically cut short in a shooting that occurred in downtown Newark, New Jersey. Just after 12:30 a.m., Newark Police responded to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Hill and Court streets. Upon their arrival, they discovered Wiley suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.
She was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:02 a.m.
A second individual, a 27-year-old male, was also wounded in the incident but survived. He was transported to University Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. The investigation into the double shooting was immediately taken over by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and Newark Public Safety officials.
Despite the ongoing and active investigation, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Kelly Wiley, who was a mother to a young daughter. Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive for the shooting or identified any suspects.
