In the early hours of a July morning, a distressing 911 call reporting a domestic violence incident and kidnapping set in motion a tragic chain of events. The call, received by the Paterson Police Department at approximately 5:06 a.m., led investigators to a Knights Inn Motel on Route 46 in South Hackensack, New Jersey. It was there that the life of 41-year-old Marcia Ferrera would come to a violent end.
Authorities had tracked the suspect's vehicle to the motel, narrowing their search to a specific room. Detectives from Paterson, along with officers from the South Hackensack Police Department, converged on room 130 around 8:37 a.m. As they announced their presence, the situation inside escalated dramatically.
Gunshots rang out from within the room, prompting the officers to attempt a forced entry.
When the door proved impenetrable, an officer discharged his firearm through a window to gain access. Inside, they made a grim discovery. Marcia Ferrera and her suspected kidnapper, identified as 45-year-old Jose Segura-Montero of Paterson, were both found deceased. A revolver was recovered at the scene. The investigation concluded that Segura-Montero shot and killed Ferrera before taking his own life in a murder-suicide. The final determination on the cause and manner of death was left to the Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office.
