In the early morning hours of October 6, 2018, Hubert Moore Jr., a 37-year-old male, was fatally shot in Burlington, New Jersey. Moore was the front-seat passenger in a vehicle near the intersection of Barclay and York Streets when the incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. An assailant approached the car and fired into the open window, striking Moore. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
Moore was transported to Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County in Willingboro, where he was pronounced dead about half an hour after the shooting.
An investigation was launched by the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office and the City of Burlington Police Department. Two days after the shooting, on October 8, 2018, authorities arrested Thomas A. Thompson Jr., then 39, in Bordentown Township. He was taken into custody by the Burlington County Sheriff's Department Warrant Unit and the U.S. Marshal's Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force. Thompson was charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Further investigation revealed that a woman, Marla Tucker, 41, who lived with Thompson, had assisted him in his attempt to evade capture following the shooting. In May 2019, both Thompson and Tucker were re-indicted on additional charges. A search of their shared residence on Union Street in Burlington City led to the discovery of cocaine, resulting in charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance for both. Tucker also faced a charge of hindering apprehension. Thompson was originally indicted on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain persons not to have weapons.
