On a Sunday morning in Burlington, New Jersey, 20-year-old Kion Edwards was standing outside a house on the 300 block of York Street in the Historic Yorkshire neighborhood when a vehicle carrying three individuals drove past. Shots were fired from the car in the direction of Edwards and the acquaintances he was with. The sole person struck by the gunfire was Edwards. He was rushed to Virtua Willingboro Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:45 a.m. on November 10, 2019.
An autopsy later revealed that a bullet had passed through his arm and entered his chest.
The investigation into the shooting was a collaborative effort between the City of Burlington Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office. Investigators were able to utilize the city's security cameras to aid in their efforts. In the days following the shooting, law enforcement identified three suspects.
Authorities charged three men in connection with the fatal drive-by shooting. Zahire N. Williams, 19, of Burlington City, was identified as the shooter and charged with murder and weapons offenses. Lowell M. McCown, 20, of Philadelphia, and Marcus S. Mackroy-Davis, 23, of Westampton, were both charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Williams and McCown were apprehended shortly after the incident, while Mackroy-Davis remained at large for a period before being taken into custody. In February 2020, a grand jury indicted all three men on charges of murder and conspiracy. Williams faced additional charges for unlawful possession of a weapon and aggravated assault, and Mackroy-Davis was also indicted for obstructing the administration of law.
